Newmark is pleased to announce it has represented Transmitter Brewing (Transmitter) in its relocation to an 8,165-square-foot space at Building 77 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Newmark’s Jordan Gosin and Brett Bedevian negotiated on behalf of the tenant, which was originally located in Long Island City.
Bordering the Clinton Hill, DUMBO and Williamsburg neighborhoods of Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY) was a symbol of America’s industrial might and center of the American middle class for generations. Today, it is among the country’s leading urban manufacturing centers, with 400+ companies employing more than 7,000 New Yorkers, a number set to more-than double in the next three years. BNY has just completed a $185 million renovation of Building 77, a one-million-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing center, including a 60,000-square-foot public Food Manufacturing Hub. The reactivation of Building 77 is expected to generate 3,000 jobs and will expand employment at the Navy Yard by more than 40 percent. The building is ideal for expanding and startup companies, and is equipped with generous ceiling heights and substantial loading capabilities.
“The Navy Yard was extremely accommodating in making this deal happen,” said Bedevian. “Supporting local businesses and incentivizing job growth is important to ownership, and Transmitter, whose namesake comes from a Brooklyn park, is the perfect fit for this location. With the craft beer market exploding in recent years, being in the vicinity of these high-demand neighborhoods will be key to the continued success of this excellent brewery.”
“When it opens, Building 77 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard will be a world-class urban manufacturing center with a diverse range of tenants specializing in industries from food and beverage to fashion,” said David Ehrenberg, President and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. “We are excited to welcome Transmitter Brewing, which is known for its thoughtful and imaginative approach to craft beer, and perfectly exemplifies the innovative spirit of the Brooklyn Navy Yard.”
Transmitter is an urban farmhouse-inspired brewery with a focus on French and Belgian-style beers and barrel-aged sours. Born in Long Island City and starting off in a garage, the homegrown company has since developed a loyal craft-beer enthusiast following. They will be producing beer at their new home, and will also have a tap room for customers to visit and enjoy the freshly-brewed beverages.
“We at Transmitter Brewing are thrilled to be a part of the growing community of makers and innovators at the Brooklyn Navy Yard,” said Transmitter Owner Anthony Accardi. “Everyone involved worked generously and diligently to make this happen once we all realized how perfect of a fit this is for both BNY and Transmitter. We look forward to integrating ourselves into the Navy Yard campus and the larger community with a welcoming environment, good jobs, and delicious beer.”
