Newmark consistently seeks ways to build and nurture relationships with the communities in which we live and work. In pursuit of our philanthropic principles, Newmark’s Phoenix office hosted a back-to-school ice cream social for 30 families at the Vista Colina Emergency Family Shelter, a branch of Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) which provides homeless families with children under 18 with short-term housing as well as action plans to address specific needs.
Newmark’s West Coast Capital Markets team - including Executive Managing Director CJ Osbrink, Financial Analyst Nicole Iglehart and Brokerage Services Coordinator Megan Eckert - along with Administrative Assistant Amy Tingey organized the event in September. Family-owned Leo’s Ice Cream catered the event, providing ice cream novelties and frozen desserts as well as soda shoppe hats to decorate. The Newmark team assembled goody bags for students, offered various supplies to parents and held a raffle for AMC Theaters, Dave & Busters and Nike gift cards.
Roughly 100 students and parents gathered for the start of the school year to enjoy some ice cream and group activities such as dance contests and foot races. The event provided time and space for students to connect with their peers and community.
“The event was a huge success; the kids were excited and open to building new relationships with their peers, and the staff had such positive attitudes and generous hearts,” said Mr. Osbrink. “We were thrilled to be able to participate in this event and look forward to opportunities to partner with Vista Colina in the future.”
Vista Colina’s mission is to assist individuals and families to attain self-sufficiently through the provision of dignified housing and services. Each family works with their CASS case manager to develop and implement a unique case plan to address their specific needs including employment, budgeting and savings, as well as other steps towards self-sufficiency. By giving families a safe, stable and supportive environment, parents can focus on building life skills, securing income and rebuilding their lives while their children are enrolled in and attending school or the on-site Child Development program.
