Newmark announces the Company has been selected as the exclusive listing agent to market for sale 736 Mission Street, home of The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM). Newmark Executive Managing Director Mark Geisreiter, Senior Managing Director Seth McKinnon
and Director Josh Peterson
are the listing agents for the property.
The sale is intended to support The CJM’s plan to ensure a sustainable and impactful future for the Yerba Buena neighborhood cultural district. As part of the sale, The CJM plans to exit the building at closing.
“We are honored to support The CJM as it takes this thoughtful next step toward achieving a sustainable operating model,” said Geisreiter. “Mindful of the building’s legacy, our focus is to identify the right steward whose program complements the Yerba Buena neighborhood cultural district and will serve San Francisco for decades to come.
Geisreiter continued, “This is a generational opportunity for the right organization to acquire a world-class, museum quality building in one of San Franciso’s most important locations, and we expect strong demand from a variety of potential buyers.”
Located in downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena cultural district, 736 Mission Street is a 63,000-square-foot architectural landmark recognized as San Francisco City Landmark No. 87. In 2008, world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind led an adaptive reuse for The CJM, integrating the historic structure with contemporary elements. The building has served as a purpose-built museum with soaring ceilings and interiors that include galleries and event spaces, a large auditorium, classrooms and meeting rooms, administrative offices, retail space and a café.
The property is situated at the cultural heart of San Francisco, in one of the City’s most dynamic neighborhoods, bookended by the Four Seasons Hotel and the Four Seasons Residence Tower, directly across from Yerba Buena Gardens and the Moscone Center and steps from Market Street, hotels, dining, shopping and public transportation and parking.
