Newmark announces the company has arranged a 41,000-square-foot headquarters office lease for law firm Wright Close & Barger, LLP (“WCB”) at the iconic TC Energy Center in downtown Houston, Texas. Newmark Senior Managing Director Joshua Brown and Associate Director Audrey Selber, supported by Transaction Manager Kaitlyn Duffie, represented WCB in the lease negotiations. The landlord, M-M Properties, was represented by John Spafford of CBRE.
WCB, one of the nation’s top-ranked appellate law firms, will relocate from its former Galleria headquarters to occupy the 30th
floor and most of the 31st floor of the tower, located at 700 Louisiana Street. The new office – over 60% larger than the firm’s previous space – will accommodate WCB’s growing team and collaborative work style, advancing its commitment to both appellate and trial excellence within a dynamic, client-focused environment.
“TC Energy Center is a defining feature of Houston’s skyline, and WCB recognized the value of aligning its headquarters with such a prestigious address,” said Brown. “The building’s prominence and downtown location perfectly support the firm’s ambitions and commitment to serving clients at the city’s core.”
“Downtown Houston is the heart of our legal community,” said WCB founding partner Tom Wright. “This move puts us closer to the courts where we appear nearly every day, closer to the clients we serve, and right alongside the trial firms we frequently partner with. It’s a natural next step for the firm we’ve become.”
TC Energy Center is a 56-story, Class A office tower encompassing 1.25 million square feet of office and retail. Recognized for its postmodern architecture and red granite facade, the landmark Houston skyscraper boasts premium amenities and direct access to the downtown tunnel system. Located in Houston’s Central Business District, it serves as the U.S. headquarters for TC Energy and is home to several leading law and financial firms.
“The building’s ownership continues to invest in capital improvements, with several projects currently underway,” said Ken Moczulski, Chief Executive Officer of M-M Properties. “We are committed to enhancing the tenant experience at the project to attract prestigious tenants like Wright Close & Barger.”
Founded in 2002 as a two-lawyer boutique, WCB has grown into an almost 50-lawyer appellate and litigation firm – and continues to expand. With the largest appellate section in Texas, the firm is home to a dozen board-certified appellate lawyers, 20 former state and federal law clerks and two former appellate justices – former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman and former 14th Court of Appeals Justice Wanda Fowler.
According to Newmark Research, renewed tenant interest in Houston’s Central Business District throughout 2024 continues into 2025, with three of the five largest office leases in the first quarter of 2025 occurring in this submarket.
