Jenny is a Partner in our Lease Consultancy team in the City of London. She brings over 25 years’ specialist negotiation experience to Newmark, working both for landlords and tenants on lease events including rent reviews, lease renewals and lease renegotiations in Central London with a particular focus on the City and its environs.
Jenny is experienced in acting as an expert witness both for arbitrators and independent experts and is qualified to act as a single joint expert. She also takes appointments as a Fixed Charge (LPA) Receiver to assist lenders with loan recovery.
Recent projects
- 150,000 sq ft office building, Moorgate EC2 – she advised the tenant in respect of a rent review of this 15-year-old building. It was not possible for the matter to be agreed by negotiation and so she acted as an expert witness in preparing reports for an arbitrator. This also involved the managing of other expert witnesses who put forward evidence in respect of the City office market and the condition of the plant and machinery. The arbitrator accepted the case put forward and determined that the rent should not increase. As a result, the landlord agreed to pay the costs incurred by her client in bringing the case to the arbitrator.
- City, University of London – she has advised City, University of London for the past 15 years in respect of lease events on their main campus in Islington. Over the same period, she also advised CASS Business School and City’s Law school. Her role included advising on numerous rent reviews, lease renewals and lease surrenders as well as strategic matters. She has successfully negotiated VAT indemnities on a number of properties so saving the University significant sums of money.
- Angel Lane EC4 – she advises Nomura on lease events affecting this 550,000 sq ft headquarters building, most recently being instructed in respect of the 2019 rent review of the entire building. This is one of the biggest single rent reviews in the City; the building fronts the River Thames and enjoys impressive views. The building has a 17,000 sq ft roof terrace and some of the largest trading floors in London. Following the default on a loan in respect of a vacant ex hospital site, she worked with the lenders to secure a sale for residential redevelopment.
