Scott J. Klau joined Newmark in 1988 and was presented its award for National Broker of the Year in 2002.
During the past 20 years, Klau has represented some of the country’s most prestigious tenants, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Swiss RE, WestLB, American Express Tax and Business, JC Flowers & Co. and M.D. Sass.
He has also orchestrated many high profile leasing assignments, such as the leasing of Carnegie Hall Tower at 152 W. 57th Street (500,000 square feet) for Rockrose Development Corporation, 1185 Avenue of the Americas for Goldman Sachs and Reckson Realty Corporation (1,000,000 square feet) including leases to American Express (125,000 square feet), WestLB (50,000 square feet) and King & Spalding (100,000 square feet), 712 Fifth Avenue (500,000 square feet), 745 Fifth Avenue (500,000 square feet) where he negotiated some of New York’s highest rents of approximately $190.00 per square foot and 1177 Avenue of the Americas for The Paramount Group, 1,000,000 square feet of sublease space for PricewaterhouseCoopers at 1301 Avenue of the Americas (which included a 350,000-square-foot lease to Lehman Brothers) and 1177 Avenue of the Americas (which included a 300,000-square-foot lease to the law firm of Kramer Levin).
Klau has also been involved in the conversion of commercial office buildings into commercial condominiums for the not-for-profit tenant community. At 820 Second Avenue, he completed approximately 100,000 square feet of condominium sales to tax exempt organizations such as the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
Klau is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York. He is involved with fundraising for the UJA-Federation and Israel Bonds and is a senior fundraiser for the Melanoma Research Foundation.
Klau graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He also studied at New York University’s Real Estate Institute.
