Marisa Austin is Director of Procurement for Newmark’s Global Corporate Services (GCS). Her primary focus is reducing cost, improving process and performance while enhancing Newmark’s ability to deliver customer-centric and innovative solutions. Austin’s day-to-day responsibilities include partnering with cross-functional business leaders throughout the firm to source and build relationships with strategic suppliers, negotiate contracts, increase revenue and uncover opportunities while supporting the development of the procurement team’s center of excellence.
Prior to joining Newmark in 2021, Austin was with WeWork where she was responsible for sourcing and supply chain management. Austin managed a team of sourcing professionals to manage firm-wide spending on business services including travel, operations, hospitality, legal, IT and finance. She drove extensive vendor consolidation programs, which resulted in significant operational efficiencies and cost savings. Austin also spearheaded return to office sourcing solutions for health and safety assets, which led to WeWork receiving the Global Certificate of Conformity from Bureau Veritas.
Austin began her career in operations with retailer Barnes & Noble. During her tenure, Austin led a special project in Louisiana, post Hurricane Katrina, where she developed procedures and training to support high volume operations that were utilized company-wide; her project team was responsible for the top producing units for the company, delivering increased sales, reduced losses, and improved staff retention. Austin’s various positions of increasing responsibility during her 16 years at Barnes & Noble culminated in her role as Purchasing Manager, where she was responsible for all purchasing and supply chain activities for the company’s food service and retail products sold in over 600 stores. This included supplier relationship management and contract negotiation with suppliers such as Starbucks, PepsiCo, Godiva, and US Foods.
