Jim Scotland joined Newmark in early 2019 as a Senior Financial Analyst in the firm’s San Francisco office, where he provides financial underwriting for advanced lease analysis and smaller private capital investment transactions in Northern California. Scotland is part of the company’s New York-based financial services team, which is expanding its presence and impact in the Bay Area.
Scotland first became involved in investment sales while at Colliers International’s office in Oakland, California, where he provided research and financial support to the East Bay Investment Group. When the group moved to San Francisco in 2004, Scotland began a nine-year stint at NAI BT Commercial/Cassidy Turley. During his tenure there, he served as Team Coordinator and Senior Financial Analyst to a changing group of San Francisco-based capital markets teams. Prior to Newmark, Scotland provided data and financial analysis services on a consulting basis for Bay Area brokers and property owners. He has underwritten investment sales transactions totaling approximately $3 billion in value over his 20-year career.
Scotland got his start in commercial real estate as a research assistant in Cushman & Wakefield’s Oakland office before becoming the corporate research director for the Colliers Parrish Group of Colliers International. Some may remember Scotland for his ResearchRant email newsletter, which he provided to Bay Area real estate investors and professionals from 2001 to 2013.
