Carolyn Bates joined Newmark in 2023 as the Regional Research Director for the Mid-Atlantic region. In this role, Bates oversees statistical data collection and analysis, interprets and advises on economic and real estate trends, and drives thought leadership initiatives, generating market insight to support the Mid-Atlantic markets. She will be based out of Washington, D.C., and leads a team of researchers in the D.C. and Greater Philadelphia markets. Bates’s focus is all commercial property types, and she especially enjoys observing how each sector influences the others.
Prior to joining Newmark, Bates was an advisory consultant at Avison Young. On the principal side, she was Vice President of Research at Bridge Investment Group in Salt Lake City. Previously she was at JLL for six years, eventually co-leading the Midwest market research. Earlier in her career, Bates learned the importance of demographics and the intersection of place and people while working in economic development for the Minneapolis-St. Paul region.
Bates is a regular contributor to the press on commercial real estate topics. She has published a number of commissioned studies for clients ranging from institutional investors to cities and community non-profits.
Bates holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
