Matthew Thomson is a senior managing director with Newmark, where he specializes in the sale of multifamily, mixed-use and land development properties in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. In addition, Matthew brokers triple-net exchanges both locally and nationwide. Matthew has been involved in brokering more than 300 sales transactions, mostly acquisitions and dispositions of multifamily investment properties, with a combined value of more than $500 million.
Prior to joining Newmark, Matthew worked at Cushman & Wakefield, most recently as a vice president with the multihousing group. During his tenure there, he consistently ranked as one of the top-performing apartment brokers. He began at the company as an associate and was promoted through the ranks to vice president. Matthew launched his real estate career in 2004, as an apartment investment broker at Marcus & Millichap.
Additionally, Matthew is involved in the ownership and management of apartment buildings in the Bay Area, which enables him to identify daily operations and key investment strategies that allow local apartment investors to thrive. He places paramount importance on long-term client relationships, going above and beyond to ensure his clients receive the best service possible.
In his spare time, Matthew enjoys outdoor activities and giving back to the community. Along those lines, he has participated in Team in Training, competing in half marathons while raising money to support those battling blood-related cancers. He is also a VIP member of the Household Industry Foundations Emergency Housing Fund, which supports low-income households threatened with homelessness.
Matthew graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in professional writing.
