Chris Bischof, CMI, CMEA, joined Newmark Valuation & Advisory in 2019 and currently serves as a Director in the North Central Region of the firm’s Property Tax Services Specialty Practice. Based in the firm’s downtown Chicago office, Chris focuses on advising clients on property tax and valuation matters, enhancing specialized service offerings and growing the Midwest market.
Throughout his career, Chris has assisted clients in all phases of the property tax cycle: pre-acquisition due diligence; forecasting; assessment reviews and appeals; informal negotiations with assessing officials; and presentations before formal boards of review and litigation. He has managed regional and national portfolios for a variety of clients, including some of the world’s largest real estate investment trusts, institutional real estate investors and Fortune 500 corporations.
Chris also has a background in both real and personal property valuation. He is a Certified Machinery and Equipment Appraiser (CMEA) and has performed valuation assignments across the United States and in six other countries. His valuations have been used in purchase price allocations, audit defense, impairment testing and fresh start accounting.
Chris’ industry experience is far-reaching, covering many sectors including complex industrial manufacturing, warehouse, data centers, retail shopping centers, energy, cold storage, senior living, hospitality, student housing, automotive, multifamily, office and others.
Prior to Newmark, Chris was the Chicago office leader of property tax for Altus Group in the Midwest region. He previously served as a manager in the Property Tax & Incentives group at Grant Thornton in Chicago. He also spent time at Thomson Financial and Merrill Lynch, providing consulting services to high-net-worth individuals and corporations.

Education
Chris earned his Master of Business Administration degree in real estate through the Chicago School of Real Estate and Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate at Roosevelt University. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Iowa.
