Brian Peterson joined Newmark’ Chicago office in 2021 as a Managing Director with Newmark’s Global Strategy & Consulting division. He supports the economic development, location strategy, and labor analytics consulting practices with data analysis, project management, and market research.
In his career, Mr. Peterson has worked with public, private, and nonprofit clients across the country on projects covering economic development strategy, tax incentives, target industry cluster identification, transportation planning, and tax policy.
His past work covers a number of pressing economic and fiscal topics, including business tax burdens in all 50 states, tax incentive review for state and local government, corporate headquarter relocations, the impacts of rent control and other policies on housing affordability, environmental economics, public sector pension reform, higher education funding, cannabis legalization, and the socioeconomic impacts of universities and research laboratories. Mr. Peterson has been featured as an economics commentator for CNN, FOX Business, the Chicago Tribune, and Crain’s Chicago and Detroit Business, among others.

Education
Mr. Peterson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Urban Studies from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. He also holds a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, where he graduated with Departmental Honors.
